Children’s Summer Courses

If you would like your child to experience paddling why not sign them up to one of our sessions during the Summer Holidays.

Beginners courses

There are aimed at children with little or no experience of canoeing.

Forth Canoe Club will run a set of five 2 hour sessions aimed at introducing your child to canoeing and kayaking. Our qualified coaches will teach in small groups of 8 so that your child will get lots of opportunity to learn and have fun. Our sessions aim to introduce many of the basic concepts and we will use a lot of games to ensure the learning remains fun. At the end of the course we will assess your child and will award a certificate marking their level of achievement. Your course fees cover the costs of the certification and also cover the cost of membership of Forth Canoe Club, meaning your child can come back and enjoy more fun sessions in the autumn term.

Advanced courses

These courses are aimed at children who can already paddle and who want to move on and develop their paddle strokes. Children should be able to choose, and put on, their own buoyancy aids; properly fit their boats; be able to get in and get out of a kayak unassisted and be able to paddle a minimum of 100m in a straight line. Our coaches will help your child develop their skills and at the end of the course we will assess your child and will award a certificate marking their level of achievement. Your course fees cover the costs of the certification and also cover the cost of membership of Forth Canoe Club, meaning your child can come back and enjoy more fun sessions in the autumn term.

What is the cost?

A week of sessions costs £70 this covers the cost of 5×2 hour sessions, junior membership of Forth Canoe Club and certificates at the end of the course.
